Spring is breaking through, bringing foggy days, blooming trees, and *achoo* allergies.
Plum Blossoms in San Francisco

I unabashedly love Halloween. Not only is fall one of the best times of the year for the Bay Area (warm weather, wonderful golden light), I love the spooky evenings, the costumes, and I always take a trip to Arata’s Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay to pick up some decorative gourds. Arata’s is a wonderfully weird place to visit. This year their theme seems to be ‘Egypt’ and no, I’ve got no idea what that has to do with Halloween. There’s a petting zoo, pony rides, and a terrific hay maze you should plan on getting lost in.
Fall is also a really great time to start thinking about updating your family portraits. It’s still nice enough outside to photograph outdoors, and you can use the images for a holiday card. Drop a line if you’ve been thinking about a family photo session, there’s still plenty time before the winter colds sets in.
This year one of my cousins was visiting San Francisco for the first time with a few of her friends, so I dragged them down the peninsula to enjoy the day with me.

I was contacted recently by a former co-worker, Justin Barker, who’s been freelancing as a director and is starting up his own production company. Justin’s a multi-talented producer with solid experience ranging from pre-production planning, direction, and in the field shooting. I’ve worked with him in the past on video projects and he’s someone I absolutely recommend to companies looking for a video production team. He’s preparing the launch of a new website, and he hired me to come on set and shoot head shots of the crew and some environmental coverage of them working.
I’m a big believer that head shots are both extremely important to have, but can be dull as dishwater if you aren’t careful. We used video lights for these and I included a bit of the background of the set on purpose to lend some context to the shots.
Check out a few more from on set and in the field below the cut –
