This wedding was, in a word, epic.<\/strong> Jody and Anthony are both artists, music lovers, incredible dancers, and pretty much the nicest cool kids you’ll ever meet. They threw a weekend-long wedding party in the woods outside of Mendocino that began with a super-hero theme welcome dinner and ended with a heavy-metal Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday. And somewhere in the middle they got married.<\/p>\n

The wedding location was deep in the woods outside of Mendocino, California. We arrived at the site and were given a cabin assignment, our official temporary tattoos, and a schedule of the weekend events.<\/p>\n

I love hats, so I was a big fan of Jody’s custom 1940’s style pillbox by O’lover Hats <\/a>. While we were off at the salon, Jody’s family and friends were busy decorating the dining hall with locally-sourced flowers. The decorations were unpretentious, beautiful, and perfectly matched the rustic surroundings.<\/p>\n

As we made our way to Jody’s cabin to get her dressed, a group of friends enacted the age-old wedding tradition ‘Flash The Bride’. Ok, so it’s not ‘age old’, and I doubt it’ll catch on, but it was<\/strong> hilarious.<\/p>\n

\"Jody<\/p>\n

Did I forget to mention that the power went out the day of the wedding? A road repair crew severed a power line, and the electricity was out across the camp. On the way into town we passed a PG&E crew working overtime trying to fix it – and they were still hard at work on our way back to camp. They managed to restore electricity before night fell, but Jody was helped into her custom-made dress by the light of an electric lantern. Just another reminder that things rarely ever go as planned, the key is not to panic! I’ve worked wedding in cold and stormy weather, meltingly hot sun, and now, without electricity. It all comes together in the end.<\/p>\n

A few people stood up and gave readings at the ceremony, including this lucky fellow who Anthony designated to read off lyrics from the touching song ‘Sweet Child O Mine’<\/a> by Guns N’ Roses.

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The caterers did a fantastic job, especially considering they spent the whole day cooking in the dark, with a generator keeping the fridges cool.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Anthony’s ‘Best Woman’ had was also the pastry chef. She baked off several hundred cupcakes in between having her hair curled and getting into bouquet battles with the bride.<\/p>\n

How to end the an epic wedding? With a live band. The Struts<\/a> rocked the place and everyone was dancing.<\/p>\n

See? Epic. Thanks again, Jody and Anthony for letting me be a part of your celebration.<\/p>\n
